Institutional access
Access to Oxford Academic content is often provided through subscriptions and institutional purchases. If you are a member of an institution with an active account, you may be able to access content in one of the following ways:
IP-based access
Typically, access is provided through an institutional network to a range of IP addresses. This authentication occurs automatically and it is not possible to log out of an authenticated IP account.
Sign in through your institution
Choose this option for remote access when outside your institution. Shibboleth / Open Athens technology is used to provide a single sign-on between your institution’s website and Oxford Academic.
- Click Sign in through your institution.
- Select your institution from the list provided, which will take you to your institution’s website to log in.
- When you’re on the institution’s site, use the credentials provided by your institution. Do not use a personal Oxford Academic account.
- After successfully logging in, you will be returned to Oxford Academic.
If your institution is not listed or you are unable to log in to your institution’s website, please contact your librarian or administrator.
Log in with your library card
Enter your library card number to log in. If you are unable to sign in, please contact your librarian.
Members of the Society
Society members’ access to a magazine is achieved in one of the following ways:
Log in through the society site
Many societies offer a single sign-on between the society’s website and Oxford Academic. If you see “Sign in via Society Site” in a journal’s login panel:
- Click on Sign in through the society site.
- When you are on the society’s site, you use the credentials provided by that society. Do not use a personal Oxford Academic account.
- After successfully logging in, you will be returned to Oxford Academic.
If you do not have a company account or have forgotten your username or password, please contact your company.

Viewing the accounts you’re signed in to
Click the account icon in the top right to:
- View your personal account that you’re signed in to and access your account management features.
- See institutional accounts that provide access.
You are signed in but cannot access content
Oxford Academic hosts a wide variety of products. Institutional subscription may not cover the content you are trying to access. If you think you should have access to this content, please contact your librarian.
Management of institutional accounts
For librarians and administrators, your personal account also provides access to institutional account management. Here you’ll find options to view and activate subscriptions, manage institutional settings and access options, access usage statistics, and more.
